Allexcia Rankin

To some, “living off the land” sounds like such an outdated way to live in today’s technology-driven times. Yet, for a few very unique people, living off the land is where they find not only their livelihood, but their joy. Local gardener and entrepreneur Allexcia Rankin is one of those unique people. She spends countless hours every day living and working on her two-acre garden to feed her family and the other residents of the greater Fort Smith area. 


Farming has been a part of Allexcia’s life since she was a child. While she studied psychology during her college years (Allexcia earned her PhD in the subject), her love of growing things never faded. So, when her family moved from the urban life back to the country, she took advantage of the opportunity to begin growing things again on her family’s farming operation, which is called Red Rooster Farms, a name inspired by a beautiful red rooster that once lived there.

She said she believes everything needs to be as natural as it can be when it comes to food. She maintains the “don’t use it unless you have to” kind of mentality as she manages weeds and pests. Allexcia’s farming approach is, clearly, to take care of the Earth and it’ll take care of you.


Sustainable Agriculture Practices

Farming with care for the environment is priority number one at Red Rooster Farms. We offer USDA-certified, local organic produce at the Fort Smith Farmer’s market and local restaurants. We are dedicated to preserving the environment while producing the highest quality food for our local customers.


We practice crop rotations, cover cropping, and companion planting.  We have reduced our tillage to prevent erosion. We also recycle crop waste to our farm animals for consumption, returning their waste to our crops as fertilizer when possible.
