Meet the Farmers

The Olander family has been deeply grounded and invested in Northern Colorado since 1926. Located on 1,500 acres of irrigated land, we tend to and harvest alfalfa, rye, wheat, corn and barley. As 5th generation farmers in Loveland, Colorado, we respect the heritage of our region’s agricultural roots. Todd and Steve Olander, owners of Olander Farms, cultivated Root Shoot Malting in 2016 to specialize in producing high quality local grains and craft malts available to the brewing and distilling industries. As partners in the beer industry, we value the high standards of being in one of America’s most esteemed locations for craft beer and spirits.

Pride and family values are an essential part of the process at Root Shoot Malting. We take what we learned from the farmers before us and use today’s most innovative agricultural equipment, while making the least impact on our earth to keep the land healthy for the next generation of Root Shoot farmers.

Root Shoot Malting is in the unique position to control the entire malting process from seed variety and growth, to harvest and final kilning. We give Colorado breweries and distilleries the ability to procure local, consistent and high quality craft products.
