Meet the Farmers
My passion for farming comes from the time I spent with my grandparents as a kid. I probably wasn't much help in the garden as a young boy but a passion was growing inside me. Several years later my grandfather passed away and I decided I should keep his garden going. I turned 25 the season I broke ground on my first garden. That summer my wife and I were married in our first garden.
Since then I have quadrupled the size of that garden and grown it into a full-time, 13-season farming career. I started growing for myself because I enjoyed the farm-fresh vegetables I grew up on, I continue to grow because I love to be able to share with others the same delicious and nutritious vegetables that my family enjoys.
I don't grow for or gauge my level of success by the amount of money we make. I grow for the smiles and the number of people that thank me and tell me they appreciate what I do. Based on the number of smiles and hugs received, I consider myself very successful. Now, after 13 years of hard work and consistent growth, I'm confident that both of my grandparents would be proud of what I have made from what was their family garden.
Sustainable Agriculture Practices
On our farm, we only use organic, heirloom, and non-GMO seeds. In order to help us mitigate weed pressure, we use tarp and landscape fabric. The landscape fabric also helps to reduce water loss and improve soil moisture. Speaking of soil, our locally sourced and home-made compost helps us build our soil's organic matter and grow fresh, nutrient-dense, organic produce for our community.
