We have four small (~14x36) homemade high tunnels, which we use to keep rain off of flowers and grow through the winter. Primarily, we are raising funds to improve these tunnels and build a couple additional so that we are able to rotate our overwintered ranunculus. As we expand our operation to grow more vegetables, we want to also build a wash station for vegetables and a processing area for our flowers. Crowdfunded capital will help cover the building materials and labor for these improvements.
Ultimately, our goal is to provide a model of small-scale agriculture that's sustainable for us as farmers as well as for our environment and set an example for other young farmers getting started!
Sustainable Agriculture Practices
Earth Dog Farm is a small, certified naturally grown farm operating on leased land in South Atlanta, GA. We grow cut flowers, salad mixes, herbs, and other vegetables, producing most of our own seedlings and buying in plugs when needed. Our farming practices include:
Minimal disturbance to the soil structure - we have a BCS 2-wheeled tractor, mainly used for mowing and a chisel plow
Prepare flower beds by hand (hoes, rakes & broad forks)
Build soil by growing cover crops and adding compost
Earth Dog is a young farm with a lot of potential and we’re excited to see them grow. Daniel is passionate about what he does, and that can be seen from the quality of his products and the thoughtfulness he puts into his business.
