Growth of a small urban farm growing cut flowers and vegetables for sale to a CSA, florists, and a farmers market.
Funded on 11/15/2020
Earth Dog Farm has four small (~14x36) homemade high tunnels, which they use to keep rain off of flowers and grow throughout the winter. Primarily, they are seeking a loan to improve these tunnels and build a few additional tunnels so that they are able to rotate otheir overwintered ranunculus. As they expand their operation to grow more vegetables, they want to also build a wash station for vegetables and a processing area for cut flowers. A loan from Steward will help cover the building materials and labor for these improvements.
Ultimately, their goal is to provide a model of small-scale agriculture that's sustainable for farmers, as well as for the environment, setting an example for other young farmers just getting started!
Earth Dog Farm is a certified naturally grown farm operating on leased land in South Atlanta, Georgia. They grow cut flowers, salad mixes, herbs, and other vegetables, producing most of their own seedlings and buying plugs when needed.
Their farming practices include:
Minimal disturbance to the soil structure - we have a BCS 2-wheeled tractor, mainly used for mowing and a chisel plow.
